Born of Osiris release their latest album "Through Shadows" this Friday

In the name of Asgard, I greet you.

Hi, it's Thor here.

Today we're talking about the new album by US band Born of Osiris, which goes by the name of "Through Shadows" and will be released tomorrow. For those who don't know the band yet: They were founded in 2003 in Palatine, Illinois, but not under their current name. Initially they called themselves DiminisheD, later Yourheartengraved, then Rosecrance - until the final step was taken with the record deal with Sumerian Records: Born of Osiris, inspired by the Egyptian god Osiris. A fitting name for a band that has always combined mythological depth with a futuristic sound.

On "Through Shadows", their seventh studio album, Cameron Losch, Ronnie Canizaro and Nick Rossi deliver exactly what the band is all about - and yet it feels like a step forward. The familiar synthesizer elements are back, but more cleverly integrated than ever before. The sound is modern, powerful, but also well thought out. Electronics and heaviness enter into a symbiosis here that is sustained throughout the entire album.

Instead of meandering from song to song, the album flows like a single stream through light and dark - with moments of calm that only serve to make the next wave of growls, riffs and double bass seem all the more violent. It's like walking through a storm where every gust of wind is a breakdown. Anyone familiar with Born of Osiris will find many familiar elements again, but will also be surprised at how fresh it all sounds.

Nevertheless, individual songs stand out. "Seppuku", for example, with its calm, electronic intro that transitions into brute force - a prelude that hits like an axe blow to the ice. The title track "Through Shadows" itself is another highlight, accompanied by a strong music video that perfectly captures the dark aesthetic. And then there's "Activated" - a song in which the band breaks completely new ground. Electronic influences, a saxophone and, as if that wasn't enough, a feature by Spencer Chamberlain from Underoath. Sounds risky, but works surprisingly well and shows courage to innovate.

My personal favorite, however, is "Inverno", which plays with subtle Egyptian influences - a musical arc to Osiris himself. Here, atmosphere and technique come together in a way that is rarely heard.

All in all, "Through Shadows" feels like a rebirth. It is well thought-out, powerful, atmospheric - an album that will not only make fans happy, but also shows that Born of Osiris are far from having reached the end of their journey. For me: a real slab. A forge of sound from which not only hot iron, but pure thunder has been forged.
