Ihsahn presents new EP "Fascination Street Sessions" on March 24.

Hi and welcome to Lila's review!

Tireless, passionate and energetic, Ihsahn is one of the most accomplished musicians on the scene, always trying to evolve and experiment with his sound. Now, on March 24, he releases his latest EP, "Fascination Street Sessions", which captures another era of his creativity.

Ihsahn, born Vegard Sverre Tveitan is a Norwegian all-round talent. He not only plays guitar, bass and keyboard - almost a full band - but is also a singer and composer. He became known mainly as the frontman of the band Emperor and also played in Peccatum together with his wife Heidi, among others. Over the years, the musician realized himself in several projects, started his solo career and made a name for himself in the scene, which in turn can be attributed to his musical flair and creativity. Now fans of the musician can look forward to another work from him.

The name of the work comes from the studio, Fascination Street Studios, where the musician recorded the EP together with drummer Tobias Ørnes Andersen and keyboardist Øystein Aadland. In addition, Jonas Renkse of Katatonia supported the trio on their cover of the song "Dom Andra", originally by the Swedish band kent. With the musical genius of Ihsahn , it has become a masterpiece perfected both technically and atmospherically. In addition, there is the collaboration with Jens Bogren, who has also produced with Arch Enemy as well as Powerwolf, among others. For this Ihsahn tells:

"This was an amazing experience, and very educational, as I love everything related to music production. Both the Fascination Street and URM teams were incredible, and I believe everyone involved had a great time, in spite of 14–16 hour workdays. I'm very happy with how everything came together and for those interested in the technical aspects of how it was made, there will be a thorough course coming soon at URM Academy.”

The whole thing was accompanied by the URM Academy, which recorded the process and used Jens Borgen as a commentator for the documentary. Ten full days in the studio are shown here, which URM Academy students will soon be able to use for learning.

"The idea was to capture high end recordings of real instruments in great rooms, and we had an amazing setup for drums, guitars, bass and even a vintage Hammond organ with Leslie, Wurlitzer, Rhodes etc, recorded through Fender combos and analogue pedals etc."

Musically, the musician combines black metal with modern metal and feeds into this other influences from the genre, which combine seamlessly into a great sound work. Especially the " "Dom Andra" cover provides live certainly for one or the other goose bumps moment and rounds off the listening experience, the unfortunately very short EP, completely.

"Fascination Street Sessions" stands for another section of Ihsahn's 's creative work, which can surprise once again in this work. We can only recommend to listen to it on Friday, it's worth it!
