Concert at Savoy Theater w/ Port Cities

Matt Andersen

My Immortals.. Welcome to BEHIND THE NOISE!

One year... one year has passed since we welcomed the exceptional talent Matt Andersen for the last time live. All the more we were happy when in April this year we received an invitation to one of his 5 gigs in the course of his Germany tour. 5 concerts in 6 days and one of them exactly in our area - so it was clear that we would pay him a visit also this year and as a "icing on the cake" we received the promise to ask him before the concert one or the other question... In the following our impressions about it: On 30.05.2018, we went to Düsseldorf to the Savoy Theater where we were most kindly received by its crew. With its high ceilings and the charismatic interior, the Savoy

already had quite a character of its own. But not only the interior, but also the acoustics in the stage area was just fantastic and the stage lighting was especially suitable for our photographer to shoot some great pictures. If you like us spend most concerts directly in front of the stage always near the pit, then a gig in such a theater is already something special... but I can only recommend you once a concert in the Savoy to visit (it is a real experience).Port Cities - Carleton Stone, Breagh Mackinnon, Dylan Guthro are three musicians from Canada. Since 2015, the three singer/songwriters have been playing as Port Cities and released their eponymous debut album last year. Since then, the three have collected numerous nominations and awards, so many that a list here (21 nominations and 11 times won) would go beyond the scope.

Port Cities with their very own style of music, are already very well known in their home country of Canada and it will certainly not take long, then the three have also reached a greater level of awareness here in Germany, how they want to achieve this among other things, more about this in a moment 😉 Only with a keyboard, an acoustic guitar as well as an electric guitar and a lot of good humor opened Port Cities the concert. From the very beginning, they created a good atmosphere. Be it "Back To The Bottom" or "Burn The Bridge", with a lot of passion for music, the band's performance was characterized by naturalness and charisma. Port Cities always managed to go one better from song to song and inspired with a great stage presence. Our highlight, and therefore our top recommendation for a Port Cities live concert, is the song "Half The Way":

Getting started with the first phrases - "Just take a shot here in the dark. Be the viewster, be the spark" - sang Dylan with his rough voice. The burgeoning atmosphere was almost palpable, the sound developed into a spherical sound and finally the whole thing was rounded off by the loud singing along of the audience. In the last part of their performance, the Carleton, Breagh and Dylan down to the audience to bring the show to a fitting conclusion. Spectators and band tuned in to a homemade Port Cities track and finally ended the concert with loud cheers. Now, let's get to what we were talking about earlier regarding the growing fanbase. Haven't you always wanted to have a band in your living room playing especially for you?

At their concerts in Germany gave Port Cities every fan the possibility to fulfill this wish. To do this, you only had to sign up in one of the lists on display and with a bit of luck... you win a "Port Cities Living Room Concert". Among other things, you could also enter a track that the band should definitely perform. Of course, we have also entered and who knows, who knows what will become of it....! Matt Andersen has been playing on stages all over the world for years, filling entire stadiums along the way. So he inspires his fans, with honest, music without much frills. Alone with a guitar and a truly extraordinary voice. In Düsseldorf we were allowed to see the exceptional artist live another time (Thank you, Patricia!) and of course we want to tell you about it. "In times of trouble. In times of need. In the darkest hours. She says you've got to believe" - with these

Words from the song "The Gift" opened Matt his concert. With his humorous manner loosened Matt from the beginning and made sure that the audience joined in right from the start. Again and again Matt surprised with short interludes, so also when he digressed in the middle of the song to just play the "The Pink Panther" soundtrack into the song. But it didn't just get funny! So the musician revealed that at every concert he plays the song "Quiet Company" plays, because his mother just loves this song. But we especially liked "Coal Mining Blues" a song where Matt captivated the audience with his powerful yet sensitive voice and even those who didn't speak English will have understood what the song is about. A great track that we highly recommend to you...! Another highlight of the concert was the performance of "I'm Giving In", which he had also played at "Ina's Nacht". The song alone is already

a highlight in itself but this time performed Matt the song with Breagh from Port Cities and that gave the song a whole new atmosphere.... Pure goose bumps. An already successful concert evening was made even better at the end of the concert by the joint performance, by Port Cities and Matt AndersenSome songs from their home country Canada rounded off the concert. The four harmonized so well with each other that the audience honored this at the end of the concert with a standing ovation. After we in the break with Port Cities had already taken a souvenir photo, we made another one with Matt after the concert before we said goodbye and headed home.... All in all a very successful evening and we can only recommend to each of you, Matt and Port Cities once live to look at. In any case, you have given us a memorable evening on the theater stage of the Savoys and brought a memorable show on stage!

Concerts, festivals and more

In our BEHIND THE NOISE column we write about everything around the metal & rock scene and take a look behind the spotlights to give you a better insight into the concert. At this concert, too, we were able to collect exciting and new memories, which we will of course not withhold from you. Intense, unconventional and intoxicating. Welcome to the concert!

One show. Endless memories
