Thornhill's new album ‘Bodies’: Atmospheric, intense, different
Hi and welcome to Lila's review!
Imagine you are driving along a country road, your hand stretched out of the window as the last traces of night meet the approaching summer. A moment of pause, of letting go. This is exactly the feeling Thornhill capture with their new album ‘Bodies’, which will be released this Friday.
Since their formation in 2015, the Australian band Thornhill has continued to develop. Named after the street where many of their first songs were written, they showed their potential early on. In 2018, they opened a show for Parkway Drive in Melbourne and quickly secured a contract with the renowned label UNFD. Thornhill stand for musical transformation, and ‘Bodies’ is another example of how they are breaking new ground and expanding their sound spectrum.
With ‘Bodies’, the band ventures into new worlds of sound. The album is more atmospheric than its predecessor ‘Heroine’ and offers a broader creative scope. Songs like ‘Crush’ or the closing track ‘For Now’ draw you deep into their sound textures, comparable to a lonely car journey at night with only the music inside to guide your thoughts. Thornhill showcase their death and metalcore sound and combine it with fresh, innovative elements that give the band a new dimension. The band explains:
"'BODIES' marks a bold evolution in our ever-developing sound. HEROINE was defined by its meticulously crafted and tightly woven concept, but the weight of this careful construction sometimes overshadowed the energy of the music itself, leaving some listeners feeling disconnected. With BODIES, we have embraced a more immediate, unfiltered approach that feels like a lightning bolt, looking to capture the energy of “Thornhill right now”
'Bodies' is less about telling a story and more about experiencing emotions. Everyone can interpret the music in their own way and immerse themselves in it. This immersive experience makes the album a must for fans and new listeners alike.
Anyone who not only wants to get involved with Thornhill musically, but also wants to live their style, should take a look at their own merchandise project ‘Thornhill Thread Collective’. The band not only offers clothing that fits perfectly into the ‘Thornhill universe’, but also affordable prices. A T-shirt for 27 euros or stylish slides for 10 euros - a real bargain compared to some concert prices.
More information can be found on their website: Thornhill Thread Collective.
'Bodies' is an album that not only burns itself into your head, but also into your feelings. Thornhill once again prove their versatility and deliver a work that takes you on an emotional journey. If you want to enjoy the soundtrack to a long summer night, you shouldn't miss this album.
