Twenty One Pilots kehren mit brandneuem Album „Scaled And Icy“ zurück
Hey and welcome to Lila's reviews!
The multi-award-winning and famous alternative rock band Twenty One Pilots is back with the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming summer. Following the international success of her album "Blurryface" and successors "Trench" the musical duo with their latest work "Scaled And Icy" has produced a sound retrospective that you shouldn't put aside any time soon.
Twenty One Pilots are in parts more related to pop than to rock, but for us they are, like Imagine Dragons or Thirty Seconds To Mars a phenomenon that we are following closely.
The change from their initial, sometimes provocative style to a band focusing on more everyday problems was very sudden, but does not detract from their musical style, to which they have remained true: relaxed, freedom-loving and lots of creativity are the trademarks of Twenty One Pilots. The two musicians Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph have developed from their hometown of Columbus into a success story that is recognized worldwide.
With "Scaled And Icy" the band has now released a work that has evolved in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Multi-instrumentalist Tyler wrote a few songs in his own home studio, recorded them and then sent them to Josh to the other end of the USA to record the drums. The result was an album with eleven songs that delivered one catchy tune after another. The record, with its slight Beatles vibe, reflects the band's typical reggae-heavy sound and combines it with pop, hip-hop and rock influences. Especially with songs like "Mulberry Street" or "Good Day" it feels like summer is knocking on your door. The sound of the record is actually more oriented towards "Blurryface" than to "Trench"but can certainly hold its own as an independent work.
"Scaled And Icy" shows a mature band that has certainly already achieved a lot musically, but is still far from finished. It's an album that doesn't shy away from trying out new things and simply letting itself drift. We like it and we hope you do too?
Otherwise, we'll convince you with their latest music video for "Shy Away":
