Fixation unveil new album “Speak In Tongues” - a cinematic journey between truth and self-discovery
Hi and welcome to Lila's review!
In a world that is not dissimilar to our own and yet unfolds a strange, emotional dimension, the band Fixation takes you on a journey that disturbs and fascinates in equal measure. With their new work “Speak In Tongues”, the band proves once again that they have come to change the metal scene with their sound.
Fixation picks up where they left off with their acclaimed debut album “More Subtle Than Death” and continues to develop their unmistakable sound. Their music is heavily influenced by films and visuals, such as “Dune” and “Don't Worry Darling”, as well as artists like Norwegian singer Aurora. These influences can be clearly felt in the atmospheric and cinematic soundscape of her new mini-album “Speak In Tongues”.
“Speak In Tongues” proves that it is more than just an album - it is an emotional work that tells a story that captivates with its complexity and darkness. As singer Jonas explains, the album is about a person who feels lost in a society that rejects them. In her despair, she finds refuge in a cult, only to realize that it is just as flawed as the society from which she felt excluded. The dramatic turning point comes when she decides to found her own cult, only to end up losing herself in it.
This narrative depth is reflected in the musical realization. Fixation succeeds in portraying the protagonist's emotional journey through a mixture of aggressive riffs, melancholic melodies and spherical soundscapes. Particularly remarkable is the way in which the band fuses hard metalcore elements with soft, almost choral sounds, creating an intense atmosphere that goes far beyond the genre.
A highlight of the album is its structure as a conceptual work, in which the songs are connected by interludes, which are presented in curly brackets. These short interludes act as links that pull the narrative thread through and give the listener the feeling of really immersing themselves in the story instead of just listening on the surface.
The four main tracks on the album are as different as they are impressive, yet they reveal an inner harmony that holds the entire work together. Each song is a separate act in this musical tragedy, in which the intensity of emotion varies constantly. They manage to deliver not only musical complexity and technical precision, but also an emotional depth that captivates their listeners. It is an album between hardness and melody, between structure and chaos.
It remains exciting to see where their journey will take them - but one thing is certain: with “Speak In Tongues” they have created a work that could influence the scene and change it forever. Fixation are on the verge of becoming an indispensable part of the metal landscape - and this is just the beginning of a story from our world.
