Livingston in interview - insights on her latest single "Show Me The Money"

Hey and welcome to Lila's interview!

On the occasion of their latest single "Show Me The Money" we chatted with the guys from Livingston about the new song, their survival skills as well as best "lock down songs" in Corona times and much more. You can find all the answers here in this interview.

A huge thanks for this to the guys from Livingston and to Val who initiated the whole thing! We hope you like it and wish you a lot of fun with the interview:

Here is the translation into German, the English original is below.

LILA: Hey, first of all, thank you very much for taking the time for this interview. How are you guys doing?

PHIL: I'm doing quite well, just enjoying the nice weather with a glass of wine in a kind of "lock down" Atmosphere.

LILA: Your band has existed for several years and has gone through many different situations. What was the best and what was the worst thing you experienced together as a band?

PHIL: That's a pretty difficult question, especially if you've been together for a long time. Every album/tour etc. is full of ups and downs, and those experiences, while collectively felt, can also be very individual, so I suspect the answers would be different for each person. I think one positive experience we can all agree on is the writing and recording of our third album "Animal". It was a period of time where it was just about us making an album together.

LILA: In honor of the fifth birthday of Krod Records you take part in the "The Five Years" Mixtape with your cover to Prey Drive's "Sunday Best" the proceeds of which will go to "Solidarity Not Silence" is donated. How did you come to participate in this mixtape and why did you decide to include a song from Prey Drive to cover?

BEUKES: Chris called me and told me about the idea of a cover. I loved the song and the band from the beginning. Usually we don't really cover, but I'm glad we made an exception here.

CHRIS: It was a tricky decision. I looked at the playlist from Krod Records listened to, and there were so many great titles to choose from. But Sunday Best just jumped out at me, so I sent it to the guys.

LILA: Recently saw your brand new single "Show Me the Money" the light of day and gives a brief insight into a socio-critical topic that we have all encountered before. What do you associate with this song and what things do you think money can't buy?

BEUKES: The idea behind the song is if you sit down and have a drink and talk to "Money" could chat as an identity/person, what would happen. The first line: "Money walks in and sits down at the bar, Why the long face says the barman I saw, you walk in a wipe all the tears from your face, You're smiling and you're grinning but I know it's all fake". Of course the song ends with a drunken "Money"who dances on a table and insults people. So I spent an evening with "Money" approximately presented.

In my opinion, money can buy everything. Even happiness. It just doesn't last very long once you have it.

LILA: All concerts and events have been canceled due to the current situation, especially bands, artists, but also organizers suffer. But already the first countries are talking about concerts with less people and spacing rules. Would you say that under the current conditions this would be a possible opportunity for you to play concerts again? And what do you think would be different from concerts before Corona?

PHIL: I'm very excited to see how the shows go, especially in the near future. I've always been a fan of the energy that comes when a room full of people get together and watch a band they love all move and sing together. The thought of socially distant concerts seems very foreign to me, but I guess if there's no other option, we'll just have to go out and play. I think the main problem for a while will actually be being able to book shows when every other band that puts out an album wants to tour as well.

LILA: If you had the chance to meet your personal idol, who would it be and what would you do with him/her?

PHIL: I wouldn't say I have just one idol, but there are certainly a lot of great musicians I would love to make music with. Maybe play a show or record a song with them, something like that.

CHRIS: Simple, I would be in the desert with Josh Homme drink a tequila.

LILA: In collaboration with Krod Records you have your new single "Show Me The Money" released and not only we, but also the fans are wondering when your new record will be released. Even Jordan sent us the new track, but did not tell us when it will be released. Tell us when can we look forward to the new album and what can fans expect from this to 100% from Livingston produced piece expect?

CHRIS: That is a difficult question to answer precisely due to the current circumstances. We are aiming for the fall.

LILA: When you think back to your first concert as a band and compare it to your performances today. What do you think has changed? And how has it affected your lives today?

BEUKES: When we started, we were a jam band. We spent days and months in the rehearsal room, just playing and jamming. It was fantastic! Our live performances at the time were pretty much an extension of that. Very much live and completely spontaneous. As the venues got bigger, we moved away from that a little bit to be more consistent in the performance. That had its pros and cons too, but I miss those days in our rehearsal space in London, Acton like crazy.

LILA: At times like these, it's hard to get distracted in any way, especially when you spend most days at home. What helps you "lock down" to overcome, and what songs are running up and down at the moment?

PHIL: Luckily I have a few projects at home to keep me busy, but Netflix's is always just a click away. Current songs on repeat... this week probably "Angel Wings" from Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes + "Tallulah" from Feeder.

CHRIS: I have Bring me the Horizon "Amo" have it put on repeat. I even think Spotify might think I'm a bot or something because I listened to it so much.

LILA: Finally, do you have anything to say to your fans?

BEUKES: Sorry it took so long. Thank you for sticking with us.

CHRIS: I agree with that.
