Music for the doomscroll era: EKKSTACY announces second album "Misery" (release date: 30.09.)
Before coming back to Germany for festival appearances in late summer, Vancouver-based emo-rock singer EKKSTACY announces his second album "Misery". It will be released on 30 September via UnitedMasters. Along with the announcement, the 20-year-old shares the single "wish i was dead", a catchy jangle-pop number produced by Suzy Shin (Weezer, Sunflower Bean).
Harder in terms of themes and sound
The new project expands on EKKSTACY's contemporary indie-pop blueprint and mid-eighties-influenced indie rock sound, which he first introduced with his debut "NEGATIVE" last year. While its predecessor weaved in the darker, introspective songwriting of early 2000s alternative and emo rock, "Misery" is decidedly heavier in terms of subject matter and sound. The album was mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Future Islands, The Drums, Slow Dive).
"Misery" sums up the young Canadian's inner turmoil, his personal experiences and the inevitable cocktail of confusion and self-discovery that comes with growing up. EKKSTACY single-handedly stems the brute collection of new songs, destined to be heard at full volume. "wish i was dead" follows the first single "I GAVE YOU EVERYTHING", which was released with an accompanying music video.
Personal experiences, Confusion and self-discovery
Honoured as a "Fresh Finds" artist by Spotify and a "21 Under 21" selection by Billboard Magazine, EKKSTACY was most recently featured on Pigeons & Planes' "See You Next Year" compilation ("I Guess") and played his first headlining tour in the US and Europe. His most successful song "i walk this earth all by myself" has over 31 million streams on Spotify alone. EKKSTACY opened the current year with a live version of his debut album "NEGATIVE". When he performs at the MS Dockville and Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg in late summer, he will already have the songs from the follow-up "Misery" in his luggage.
