In an interview with MD One about their music, new projects and much more

Hi and welcome to Lila's interview!

We recently took the opportunity to speak with Marc and David from MD ONE. In an interview the guys told us about their latest song "Bomb A"the chance to have a superpower once in a lifetime and of course they also told us a thing or two about their latest album "Twelve Stars". An exciting, relaxed interview that you should definitely read!

A huge thanks to: The guys from Marc and David from MD ONE and to Val from Coming Soon Agencywho made the whole thing possible!

LILA: The Corona pandemic seems to have no end at the moment and will certainly not disappear from our daily lives anytime soon. How did you spend the lockdown period in particular and what did you do with it? "Good mood song" can you recommend our Immortals?

MARC: In fact, most of the creative work and recording was done before this period. I used these "lockdown periods" to pre-mix the tracks and create an extended version of "Bomb A" to create. For the "Good mood song" I will of course play a song from MD ONE choose! "Esperance".

DAVID: The lockdown phases had no negative impact on the progress of our project. However, we took them as an opportunity to calmly define our rollout strategy and adjust our schedule. At "Esperance" I agree with Marc, it is perfect for a "Good mood song".

LILA: Your brand new song "Bomb A" speaks directly from the heart and really captures you. What inspired you to write this song and what message do you want to send with it?

DAVID: "Bomb A" is a romance, a love at first sight, an imaginary woman who outgrows us and takes us away... Like an explosive solution that is equally unstable and dangerous, but powerful.

Why do we have the title "Bomb A" chosen? Because of the metaphor. But we also wanted the title in French with writing in English to mention a form of duality that you can also find in a relationship.

LILA: As we can see from your band name "MD ONE" you are connected through your music and complement each other. Tell us, what makes your work together so special and what do you like most about each other?

MARC: Probably because we have known each other for a very long time. Musically, we built ourselves with the same inspirations, namely the biggest names in pop music and trip-hop, in terms of sound creativity. We have always gone our way, creating our own sound. I appreciate that David wants to live his dreams selflessly and resolutely. In a way, that gives me even more motivation.

DAVID: We've known each other since we were teenagers and have the same musical inspirations. We have a lot of respect for each other because we both bring something to our music in our own way. The most creative phase is obviously when we are closest and working together. Marc is a very good composer and when he shows me a new design, it sharpens my senses and my inspiration.

LILA: If you had the opportunity to have a superpower, what would it be?

MARC: The power of not having to sleep, of having plenty of time to do all the things I'd like to do!

DAVID: I want to bring kindness and peace to this world.

LILA: The music video for your new song was shot in Berlin. How was the shooting there and what was your biggest highlight?

MARC: It was our second video clip. Being in Berlin, with its history and "avant-garde" music, was an exciting moment. For the video, my biggest highlight was the atmosphere of the RAW area.

Also, I can't skip the musical moment with an unknown singer on the subway. We have all together "What's up" from 4 Non Blondes sung.

DAVID: The shooting was very rhythmic. Marc, the entire technical team, the actors and I ended up in a wandering minibus that dropped us off at each location in the Berlin night. We finished shooting at 2am in -15° weather.

I must admit, the video clip was produced under difficult conditions, but we are very happy with the result. It brings a more underground vibe and shows part of our references and inspirations like many others. It's also a form of homage for us to great artists who also get their inspirations in Berlin: U2, DM, Bowie

LILA: Where do you see yourselves in five years?

MARC: In my studio overlooking the ocean, sharing various musical projects with passionate musicians and singers. Or in a composition of visual language class work.

DAVID: Musically, I have many new ideas for lyrics, new themes that need to be explored. I also want to try new musical paths. On a more global level, I would like to achieve some form of completion with my various projects.

LILA: After the exciting release of "Bomb A" will soon be followed by the launch of the next two singles, as you have already revealed via social media. Can you already tell us what we can expect and if so, what is the scene on the beach about?

MARC: "Twelve Stars" is composed of different musical styles, and our next two singles reflect its richness.

The text of the first piece, "I Need You", is about a separation, which is why we wanted to show vast landscapes. The solitude and nature, the perfect backdrop to take a new look at yourself. The scene on the beach shows that.

At "Esperance" is different, a more pop/rock piece. We wanted a minimalistic video, so we will be shirtless!

DAVID: In our album "Twelve Stars" is essentially about feelings and human experience.

It's about the connection between what guides us and what or who we believe in. It is also about what brings us strong and complex emotions or what can hurt us in some way....

It would probably take 10 albums to tell the world everything we feel through lyrics. However, it's a pretty dark album and it was written, composed and accepted that way.
